Young Carers

At Frodsham Primary Academy, we work closely with Young Carers in Cheshire West and Chester .

Cheshire Young Carers support young carers across Cheshire in three key areas, school holiday respite programmes, individual & group support where necessary plus working with schools/colleges to provide specialised support where required. Principally Cheshire Young Carers is funded by private donations.

School Holiday Programmes

For most pupils, the school holidays are a time to get some well-deserved rest. However for a young carer, this is often the most stressful time, as school provides a chance to see friends and is a positive environment. They may feel more relaxed here than in their own home. To support these young people, Cheshire Young Carers deliver respite support during all school holiday periods focused around activity programmes with plenty of activities  and lots of new experiences.

Residential Trips

Young carers are often provided with the opportunity to spend a few days away from the home. Residential trips are a great opportunity for the young people to build some strong friendships, grow in confidence and independence, and also build on skills such as leadership and communication.

Education

Cheshire Young Carers provide a comprehensive support programme for primary and secondary academies, schools and colleges in order to raise awareness and promote the early identification of young carers in education. Cheshire Young Carers works collaboratively with its education centre partners to improve attendance, achievement and the overall educational experiences for young carers.

Regular Group Sessions

Group respite sessions provide the young carers with a welcome break from their caring role. Here, they are given the chance to be a child again, leaving all their worries at the door. These sessions promote physical, mental health and general wellbeing, with enrichment programmes that provide them with valuable skills they will use to reach their full potential.

Young Carers Needs Assessment

Cheshire Young Carers assesses every young carer to establish their needs and offer the relevant level of support. This may range from 1-1 intervention work, to supporting the family via the multi-agency process.

If you feel that your child could be identified as Young carer, please get in touch with Mrs Sutton in school.
