Forest School

At Frodsham Primary Academy, we have been lucky enough to establish a site within our school grounds. There has been an incredible amount of ground work to prepare the site, which our children love to explore.

Forest School is described as a 'type of outdoor education in which children visit forests and woodlands, learning personal, social and technical skills'. It is also seen as "an inspirational process that offers children regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment". Forest School enhances our curriculum and places a strong emphasis on raising all children's independence and self-esteem.

An integral part of the Forest School experience is that children will experience the wood in all weathers. This enhances our 'all day, everyday' approach to outdoor play which is already in place in our Early Years.

Forest School activities will teach the children about caring for the woodland while developing their respect and understanding of the environment too.

Through improved independence and self-esteem, children will as a result be able to use their Forest School experience to enhance their learning across all areas of the curriculum whilst developing a love and understanding of the natural environment. It is for this reason that we have chosen to be a Forest School.

Frodsham Primary Academy is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Local School Nature Grant, thanks to players of the People's Postcode Lottery.

Our pupils will be benefitting from all year outdoor learning kit, waterproofs and wellington boots. All of which will be used to support our Forest School work and links to our chosen training programme.

Pupils played an important role in applying for the grant and selected equipment that they felt would benefit their peers.

The staff team are excited to embark on the training programme that will occur in the autumn term.

The project is run by Learning Through Landscapes and funded by the People's Postcode Lottery, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, Postcode Places Trust, Postcode Society Trust, Postcode Local Trust or Postcode Community Trust - all of who which receives funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery.
