'Barn Owls' (EYFS - Nursery 2's and Reception) - Miss Curtis 2021 - 2022
Hello and Welcome to Nursery and Reception!
"We always use: Kind Hands, Kind Feet and Kind Words"
Welcome to our Nursery 2's and Reception class page, where you can find all of the information you may need about our day to day activities in Barn Owl class. Nursery 2's are our pre-school children age 3-4 years old.
Welcome to Spring term! For the first part of the half term, we will be learning about 'Amazing Animals', focussing on fiction and non-fiction texts that are set in different habitats. Miss Curtis has visited the library and we have lots of lovely books to explore within this topic. We will look at life cycles, hibernation, animal arts and crafts, David Attenburgh and lots more!
Whilst we will be following an overarching topic, the staff are very experienced at observing the children and planning from their interests, widening their experiences and introducing them to new ones. We love to use our calander to enhance our provision and provide wow moments, for example this half term we will celebrate 'Big Schools Bird Watch', 'National Story telling Week' and 'International Lego Day' to name just a few!
We will be following 'White Rose Maths' this year to really ensure that the mathematical knowledge and understanding is embedded in the children, alongside the activities that will be out in the provision.
Please take a look at the letter in the files section below to find out about the new 'Development Matters' framework we will be following, also the compulsory baseline assessment and how we report to parents. Below you will also find copies of our new exciting curriculum, the class time table, our curriculum goals for each year group and lots of other information you may find interesting!
Please keep in touch with us through Tapestry, uploading evidence of their weekly home learning tasks or contact me on my email if you have any queries.
Reception and the 30-hour funded children have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. All children will need a white t-shirt, black shorts and PE pumps. Please ensure all clothing is clearly labeled.
Please send in a water bottle each day only containing water, we have a no juice policy in Early Years to ensure the best start for children's teeth. The children will have the opportunity to drink milk at snack time, also milk, water and juice are available in cups at lunch time. A healthy snack will be provided by school at the cost of 20p a day.
Reception - Reading books will be swapped and sent home on a Tuesday and a Friday. Please read these with them and comment in their reading diary - what they thought about the book or any words they may have struggled on. Tricky words are also sent home on cards, 3 ticks and they will be given a new set to practise. With continued practise at home they will no doubt progress through the reading scheme as the year continues.
Weaver The Reading Rabbit!
Weaver the Reading Rabbit is out of quarentine! He loves going home with the children to listen to them or their parents read. We can't wait to hear all about the lovely books that he listens to.
School / Home Partnership
At Weaver Vale we strive to celebrate achievement and raise self esteem of all children whatever their interests and abilities. Tapestry has been a fantastic tool used last year to share with you your children's learning, and also for you to comment and upload your own obseravtions. Another one of the ways we share the children's achievements is through our twitter account. Please feel free to follow us on twitter: @FWeaverValePS and look out for the #fwvEYFS. You can also use this hashtag if messaging the school a photo of something your child has done at home or at the weekend.
The home / school link is vitally important throughout their time at Weaver Vale, but particularly in NurseryReception. Evidence is key, and builds a picture of the whole child in the different environments that they spend most of their time. Please note we do support traditional methods of communication, such as face-to-face conversation and written notes. Therefore please feel free to use these methods of contact if you are unable to use Tapestry or twitter. Equally if you are keen to join social media and need some support/guidance then please ask and I will happily sit and set this up with you.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family into our school and wider community, please come and talk to members of staff at the end of the day for any of your queries or 'wow' moments for the children that you would like to share with us.
